MEETINGS & EVENTS

SS Longwy Reception

The main event during October was the Reception given following the commemoration of the memorial to the crew of SS Longwy lost at sea in 1917.

It was a privilege to meet the great-grandchildren of some of the crew. Each one had a story to tell of their lost relative. The Captain’s great-grandson had the compass found in his great-grandfather;s pocket when his body was washed up on the shore. A precious possession and a very precious memory.

We were privileged to have with us Lieutenant Commander Vianney Quarre de Boiry and the crew of PSP Flamant, a French Naval vessel which joined in the ceremony by putting a wreath in the waters where the wreck SS Longwy lies in the Firth of Clyde.

We continue to work with the Community Wealth & Business Manager, who is helping write a Business Plan for Wave Community Hub. This is being funded by the Scottish Government Prosperity Fund and has been offered to us by SA Council.

Two of us attended the October Business Association Meeting. We are learning so much about what is happening in Girvan and the surrounding villages and how businesses are being impacted by regeneration and the extension of the conservation area. We are also learning about working together to ensure economic growth.
